Be Prepared

The motto ‘Be Prepared’ was the original motto for the Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts/Girl Guides. It came from the the man who started the scout movement in 1907; his surname was Baden-Powell… B. P….BE PREPARED.

Major-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1896. The photograph was taken for Elliott and Fry by Francis Henry Hart in 1896. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Baden-Powell,_1st_Baron_Baden-Powell#/media/File:Robert_Baden-Powell_in_South_Africa,_1896_(2).jpg

The scouts were set after Baden-Powell’s experience in the Second Boer War 1899-1902 and before the First World War in 1914.

‘But Baden-Powell wasn’t just thinking about first aid and wartime emergencies when he coined the motto. This is from the 13th…edition of the Boy Scout Handbook:

His idea was that Scouts should prepare themselves to become productive citizens and strong leaders and to bring joy to other people. He wanted each Scout to be ready in mind and body and to meet with a strong heart whatever challenges await him“…(/ her)

Preparation Takes Planning And Commitment

PLANNING POEM 2:

Be pro-active, be always ready

Plan always to fight with uncertainty

Planning gives confidence to fight

Planning gives a feeling that you will be right

Planning is nothing but mental make up

It will help you to go up, up and up.

When you prepare to cook something by gathering all the ingredients together, putting on the oven and checking the time, you are planning ahead to make sure you have something yummy to eat in the end.

When you prepare to do well in any sport you plan training sessions, what skills to work on, and make sure you are fit, so you have a good chance of doing well in the sport.

When you prepare to do an exam or test you put in time to learn about the subject, you get others to test you, you make sure you have pens, pencils etc ready, to help you pass.

This is true for learning new skills, starting a new school, job interview and many other things in life.

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. ….BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today. …AFRICAN PROVERB
